EOSS - Wacko Macko is Backo (DJ C Babylon a Fall Mix) mp3
Wacko Macko is Backo was composed by EOSS
(Electro Organic Sound System) as a film score for “Touched,”
an award winning documentary about people who believe they’ve been
abducted by aliens. The moody melody of pizzicato strings and reverb drenched
vibraphone, is the theme for Dr. John Mack, a Harvard psychiatrist who
believes his abducted patients’ stories are real. In this mix DJ
C grabs the melodic elements of the theme and mashes them up in a mad
dancehall jungle style. Vocals by Sizzla and Capleton weave through the
dynamics of this dance floor scorcher.
Moosaka - Masters of Technology (EOSS Overgrown Technology Mix)
This mix originally came out on Moosaka’s “Sound Thoughts”
album, and is a remix of a track from the classic 5 Finger Breaks 12”.
Moosaka (AKA Joe Moose Demby) is primarily a hiphop producer. “A
lot of shit is too polished now” says Moose, reminiscing about the
hip hop of old. On this remix, EOSS takes Mosaka’s blunted, instrumental
tune, and builds it up into a 200 BPM hardcore jungle monster. The Boston
Phoenix says of the track: “EOSS’s ‘Overgrown Technology’
rides a sad melody into a ferocious drum ‘n’ bass.”
EOSS formed in 1995 as an outlet for dub influenced electronic sound-scapes.
In 1996 EOSS’ critically acclaimed debut CD, “Herbanism,”
was released on the BlissRecordings
label. EOSS’ second full-length, “Roots Wreck Remix,”
was released in 2000. The WIRE
magazine described it as “fibrous Jungle and post-Orb dub overlaid
with grainy electronics.” The Boston Globe describes Electro Organic
Sound System as: “groundbreaking musical experimentation.”
"On the a side of this latest Mashit release, DJ C takes on the
Electro Organic Sound System’s haunting, string drenched melody
(originally composed for an award winning documentary about alien abductions).
The original break twists into a heavy ragga junglistic bass line, nicely
offset by a sample from an overlooked Xterminator classic: Sizzla proclaims
that ‘babylon a listen from near and far’ and this one surely
will shake babylon down to its foundations. The usual tight Mashit production
values are in evidence here and on the flip, which sees EOSS take on a
hip hop instrumental from producer Moosaka and twist it into a 200 BPM
monster, which takes in fierce hardcore and rinsing jungle. The sci fi
theme of the record is taken up with some eerie vocal samples which are
glitched up in the mix to complete the wacko effect."

"Yeah buddy, Mashit comes correct with a 2 track stomper of post
jump up dancefloor madness. Wacko Macko is Backo opens up with some nice
string work, and gives way to Sizzla and Capleton's vocals that work quite
nicely with the dirty basslines and heavy amens. Moosaka's Masters of
Technology carries the b-side by way of an Electro Organic Sound System
remix. After a long intro and some deep bass, the track gives way from
the splintered hip hop and lets loose into a full on pillaging of 200
BPM drum and bass sure to tear floors apart. Recommended."
"Two cuts of post-millenial ragga-dub-jungle... Damaging breakbeat
cut with a nasty bass stab rearing up through bucking breaks, sample drops
and more bouncing driving bass..."
